How to use this site

This section has been set up to help with any technical or general problems you may experience whilst using our site.

Listed below is information which we think you may find useful in helping you get the most from our site, also there are answers to questions which you, the members of the public have asked us.

Q: Which browser is best for viewing our web site?

A: Different browsers tend to display pages on the internet differently. We are aware of this and we've taken this into account when we design for the site. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or higher, Netscape Navigator 6 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 1 or Mozilla 1 will format our pages correctly. People using older browsers will still be able to see the information on our pages but text formatting and layout will be affected if your browser does not support Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). All the latest versions of these browsers support this feature.

The site is also tested in Lynx, a text only browser.

If you find an issue on any browser that means you can't view the page correctly, please email our website manager at web@solihull.gov.uk

Q: How do I view the PDF documents that are on your site?

A: You use Adobe Acrobat Reader, a program that you install on your PC. This then allows PDF files to be viewed via your web browser, or saved to your PC and viewed whenever is convenient. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Q: How can I view Word documents Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint Presentations?

A: We try to avoid using Word documents, however sometimes it is useful to download a document (such as an application form) to complete on your computer. You may also find these viewers useful when using other websites.

If you do not have Microsoft Office, you can download Microsoft's free viewers to read and print their documents.
