The make up and organization of Solihull council
How the Council operates.
Solihull Council is made up of 51 elected councillors representing the 17 wards of the borough. The role of the councillors is to decide overall Council policy and to represent the interests of their ward and their individual constituents.
The Mayor is elected by the Council and is the first citizen of the borough with an important ceremonial role and also chairs meetings of the full Council.
Each year the Annual Meeting of the Council appoints a Leader of the Council who then appoints a Cabinet. The Cabinet is responsible for day to day Council decisions. It currently consists of eight Members who hold portfolios for the main areas of the Council's activities and services.
The Council has set up an Overview and Scrutiny Management Board and five Scrutiny Boards.
