Building Stronger Communities

Strong and happy communities have pride in where they live with the people and communities being confident, welcoming and resilient enabling them to respond positively to the challenges they face.  To build Stronger Communities our Sustainable Community Strategy has five priorities to:

  1. Build the capacity of communities to act on their own needs, concerns, ideas and aspirations, and to tackle the problems they face.
  2. Increase community tolerance, trust and understanding.
  3. Increase involvement in active citizenship, engaging local people in decision making.
  4. Increase social inclusion, addressing the hardest to reach families and communities.
  5. Increase participation in culture, sport and other leisure activities.

See our Sustainable Community Strategy for fuller details of the needs analysis underpinning these priorities and the specific measures and targets by which we will measure improvement.
