Solihull Council Priorities

Priority 1

To Provide Improved Facilities for Children and Young People

This Priority particularly supports the CYPP priority 'Things To Do, Places To Go', and we want to:

  • Make sure that all of our children and young people have the opportunity to enjoy and engage in various social and recreational activities.
  • To make sure that services are available to all children and young people whatever their situation.

Priority 2

To ensure our children and young people grow up in a safe environment with opportunities to make a positive contribution

This Priority particularly supports the CYPP priority 'Anti-bullying and Personal Safety', and we want:

  • Children and young people to be safe from any type of exploitation or maltreatment.
  • Provide them with the opportunity to engage in decision-making and positive behaviours in order to develop their personal and social skills.

Priority 3

To reduce the fear and incidence of crime and disorder

We want to:

  • Reduce all types of crime, anti-social behaviour, and the fear that these generate.

Priority 4

To provide a cleaner, greener, more sustainable Borough

We want:

  • A pleasant living environment for everyone to enjoy, with access to good facilities including clean and attractive open spaces.
  • To achieve this through sustainable processes that will not adversely effect the environment for future generations.

Priority 5

To address housing issues and deliver the Decent Homes Standard by 2012

We want to:

  • Make sure that we achieve the national target of bringing all social housing into a decent condition by 2012.
  • Tackle access to affordable housing, the quality of private sector stock, and disabled access to housing.

Priority 6

To improve transport facilities throughout the Borough

We want to:

  • Make sure that our transport facilities allow people to access the services and access work, health, leisure and shopping.
  • Improve bus services and the other forms of local transport.
  • Look after the safety of road users and pedestrians.
  • Ensure the maintenance of roads and pavements.

Priority 7

To reduce inequalities in respect of health and education and improve access to work and leisure

We want to:

  • Close the gap in inequality that exists not only between the north and south but also between other areas in the Borough where the inequalities issues are not as apparent.

Priority 8

To improve the customer experience by providing people with the information they require to make informed decisions on services provided

We want to:

  • Enhance the customer experience of the Council and actively involve our citizens and communities in local government.

Priority 9

To provide services and support to older people in order to promote their independence and sustain their quality of life

We want to:

  • Help more older people to live at home and maintain their independence.
  • Encourage the active involvement of older people in the community and support.

Priority 10

To pursue value for money in all Council services and effectively communicate this to the public

We want to:

  • Make sure that we communicate effectively to the public how these quality services also achieve value for money.
  • Make sure that we are providing the quality of services that people have a right to expect.
