Catchment areas

If you live in Solihull we recommend that you include your catchment-area school among your preferences, even if it is your lowest preference.  You can find out your catchment-area school using Online Maps. Living in the catchment area does not guarantee that you will be given a place, but you will have a high priority.  You can measure the distance from your home to a Solihull school using Online Maps.

Primary and infant schools

For more information about primary and infant schools use the drop-down menu below.  You will see the schools' contact details and their admission criteria.  You should check the admission criteria to see if you need to supply any supplementary information to the school, for example a baptismal certificate.  You can ask for a prospectus and when you can visit.

Is your application realistic?

You can work out the priority your child's application will be given and find out if he or she would have been offered a place in previous years.   You can apply online for a nursery place in up to four schools, wherever you live.  Nursery places are for 15 hours free education in a Solihull school starting in September 2013.  You can include faith schools and academies in Solihull.  You must rank the schools in order of preference.  The school you name first should be the one you would most like your child to go to.   Getting a place in a nursery does not mean your child will get a place in reception at the same school the following year.  Most schools do not give priority to children who have been in the nursery.  More children apply for reception which means it is harder to get a place.

Exceptional circumstances

Priority is given, at some Solihull schools, to children with exceptional social or medical reasons.  If you think there may be exceptional circumstances find out more or phone School Admissions.

Nursery sessions

Some schools offer a choice of sessions.  After you have been offered a place, the school will ask you what sessions you prefer.  Some schools have facilities on site called "wrap around".  You can use this with a nursery place to make all-day care.
