Applying for a place in reception

Information about applying for a school place in reception

Contact us if you can not find what you are looking for about school admissions.

Offer day ~ 23 April

Accepting your child's place

On offer day you can login to your account to accept the place you have been offered.  You have 2 weeks to accept the place online, so if the website is busy you can try again later - you will not lose the place.

Declining the place offered

You should only decline the offer if you have another school place for your child.  You must email admissions@solihull.gov.uk telling us your child's name, date of birth and the school they will be going to.

Your right of appeal

If you are unhappy with your offer you have the right of appeal.  However, if there are 30 children in the class your appeal is only likely to be successful if you think a mistake has been made.  Find out more about the appeals process.

If your child was born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 you must apply for a place in full-time school.  This first year is called “reception”.

Offer day

3 January 2012

31 January 2012 1 March 2012 23 April 2012

You can apply online for up to four schools, including faith schools and academies.  They can be in Solihull or in another council area.  You must rank the schools in order of preference.  The school you name first should be the one you would most like your child to go to.

Catchment areas

We strongly recommend that you include your catchment-area school among your preferences, even if it is your lowest preference.  You can find out your catchment-area school online at www.solihull.gov.uk/onlinemaps.  Living in the catchment area does not guarantee that you will be given a place, but you will have a high priority.

If you do not include your catchment-area school and we cannot offer you a place at any of your other preferred schools you will be offered a place at the nearest school with a vacancy after all the other places have been offered.

Primary and infant schools

Find out more about Solihull schools.

You will see the schools' contact details and their admission criteria.  You can contact the school and ask for a prospectus and when you can visit.

If a school receives more applications than places available the admission criteria area used to decide who is offered a place.

Supplementary information

Find out if the school you are applying for needs any supplementary information and send it to the school.  For example, some faith schools need you to fill in an extra form, or provide a certificate of baptism or proof of your attendance at church.  You can find out more on the school pages.

Exceptional circumstances

Priority is given, at some Solihull schools, to children with exceptional social or medical reasons.  If you think there may be exceptional circumstances find out more and phone School Admissions.

Late applications

Applications received after 15 January 2012 will be late.
