National Adoption Standards

Timescales

We make every effort to comply with timescales in the National Adoption Standards. Sometimes organisational pressure can cause some delay and you will be informed if this is an issue.

It is also important to recognise that some individuals and families need to have more time for reflection. We will always go at the pace you need.

  1. We should respond (in writing) to your enquiry within five working days.
  2. The follow up interview and information giving should be within two months.
  3. When the agency decided to proceed with an application, there should be an Adoption Agency decision, following the Home Study, within six months.

Note:

For operational reasons, we are only able to arrange a maximum of three sets of Preparation Groups a year. Therefore it may not be possible to proceed to Home Study within two months of your first interview. You will usually be invited to the next available groups and, if there is particular urgency, it may be possible for arrangements to be made for you to attend Preparation Groups in a neighbouring authority.
