Adult Learners' Week Launch Event - Chelmsley Wood Town Centre - Saturday 9 May 11am - 2.30pm
On Saturday 9 May we will be holding a Launch event in Chelmsley Wood Town Centre from 11am to 2.30pm to celebrate Adult Learners Week – 9 -15 May. Our theme for the day is Healthy Lifestyles and surviving the Credit Crunch. The event will be officially opened by the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Councillor & Mrs Gary Allport. During the day there will be opportunities to try various hands-on activities and talk to people from many different organisations, including Solihull College, Citizens’ Advice Bureau, LearnDirect, Libraries, and the Family Information service.
Adult Learners will also be on hand to talk about their experiences and how “returning to learn” has improved their confidence and aspirations. During Adult Learners’ Week , there will be free short taster courses across the Borough in Libraries, Excellence in the Community Adult Learning Centres and other venues – Look out for details in the Adult Learners Week Brochure. Adult Learners’ Week, 9 – 15 May 2009, is the annual national celebration of adult learning in the UK through NIACE, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education. NIACE is the leading non-government organisation for lifelong learning and exists to encourage adults from all walks of life to engage back into learning of all kinds and campaigns for, and celebrates the achievements of, all adult learners.
