Due for re-election May 2015
Welcome to My Page
I have been an elected member for the Olton Ward serving on Solihull Council since 1996 and have, during that time, been a cabinet member, an opposition spokesperson and Mayor of the Borough.
I live in the Olton ward, have been a committee member of the Olton Residents' Association since 1995 and a governor of Langley Secondary School since 2010.
My Surgery Times
My colleague councillors, John Windmill and Claire O'Kane and I hold regular Advice Bureaux at Olton Library on the last Saturday of each month (except December).
These are held inside the main library room between 10.00am and 12.00noon.
There is no need to make an appointment to see us. Just come along to discuss a problem or concern, to suggest an idea or just to express a view. You will be most welcome.
  Otherwise I can be reached by phone or fax (0121 682 1647) mobile or text (07818 012 138) or e-mail: ndavies@solihull.gov.uk
Ward Matters
Most issues in Olton are concerned with either Planning or Parking. As one of the bigger wards with nearly 6000 homes, planning issues often cause concern.
Our Olton conservation area needs to be carefully maintained.
We try to prevent the shoehorning in of extra homes into small gaps, the demolition of larger houses to make way for apartments, and any other plans which might change the nature of this pleasant ward.
"Olton" means "Old Town" and was formed from three ancient settlements: Langlea, Kineton and Ulverlea. It is one of the older parts of the Borough.
Parking is an issue, particularly by Olton Station and, in the mornings and afternoons by the several schools: there are five primary, one special and one large secondary schools in the ward.
Recent concerns have been expressed about parking by the Health Centre on the corner of Swanswell Road and Gospel Lane.
Despite its built-up appearance Olton is rich in amenities: Olton Mere, West Warwicks Sports Club, Robin Hood Golf Club, Moseley Cricket Club and Old Edwardians Rugby Club plus Langley Hall Park.
There are also Anglican, Catholic, United Reformed and Baptist Churches in the ward plus Solihull's only Synagogue.
My Interests and Hobbies
On the Council I have been mainly concerned with Education, Children and Young People. I serve on the Youth Advisory and Music Sevice Advisory Committees and I am opposition spokesperson.
I attend meetings of the Education, Chgildren and Young People's Scrutiny Board, the Schools Forum and the Children and Young People's Trust Board. I also Serve on the Governance Committee and the Town Centre Advisory Board.
One of my proudest achievements has been the introduction of the Annual Civic Honours Awards which give recognition to the many people who voluntarily give of their time to serve others in Community Sevice, The Arts, Sport and Youth Work.
