• David Mattocks/Dave Pinwell talk to Gerry Blackett separately about the involvement of the third sector in the visioning work.

• Gerry Blackett to forward the Birmingham Prospectus, for particular attention of the Prosperous Communities Strategic Group.

• Melanie Lockey to consider approaches to promote the work of the business sector (eg Economic Summit, Assembly etc).

• Mark Rogers to forward any information on Total Place to the Governing Board.

• Update from Lynda Hackwell at the next Governing Board meeting on progress in agreeing the delivery plan for NI171.

• Ian Ash and Terry Cotton to investigate benchmarking Solihull's LAA performance against other partnerships.

• To set up a Task and Finish Group to look at information, advice and guidance services to respond to the growing demand in the economic downturn. (Martin O'Conner)

• To map serious acquisitive crime data for the Borough, excluding Airport and NEC crime spots. (Keith Portman)

• Set up a meeting with John Curtis (Home Office Regional Lead) to review Solihull's benchmark position on serious acquisitive crime. (Terry Cotton)

• Terry Cotton/Melanie Lockey to discuss the LASS progress report for the next review of the Partnership.

• Local Authority in the process of retendering for the Citizens' Panel. Partners invited to consider becoming involved in commissioning this type of consultation. Melanie Lockey to circulate proposals.

280510Gerry Blackett presented the Board with his view of Partnership Working and some of the challenges based on his involvement with the Birmingham LSP. He was particularly keen to highlight how they had involved the Private Sector; the value of public/private cooperation and the added value to the Performance management arrangements.

He then talked about the visioning work that he is involved (through the Chamber) which is addressing "What sort of business borough can and should Solihull be? -
1. Sustainability
2. Skills
3. Transport
4. Technology
Solihull had signed up to be a Total Place pilot with Coventry and Warwickshire. Initial scoping meeting to take place in June.
280512HEALTH AND EQUALITIES (Stephen Munday and Ian Mather)
Challenges highlighted included:
• All age mortality - targeting people who don't regularly see their GPs, ie middle-aged men.

• Breastfeeding - promoting a culture of acceptance through social marketing campaigns and improving monitoring reporting systems through GPs.
Approaches targeting on what works and what should we commission.

NOT IN EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING (NEETs) (Martin O'Connor)
Challenges highlighted included:
• The impact of rising unemployment in the economic downturn.

• The LSC providing a limited number of places and increased pre-qualification criteria.

• Reduced number of entry level employment for new graduates.

• Increased demand on information, advice and guidance services from graduates and adults into the Connexion service.

CLOSING THE EDUCATION GAP (Kathy Slinn)
Challenges highlighted included:
• The attainment gap in English is a challenge at foundation stage and Key Stage 1&2 due to the needs of young people to acquire language skills - boys and BEM most affected.

• The attainment gap in Maths is a challenge at KS 3&4 due to shortage of specialist Maths teachers.

CRIME AND DISCORDER (Emma Barnett/Keith Portman)
Challenges highlighted included:
• The need to respond to emerging crime patterns in a responsive way.

• The impact of having an airport and the NEC within the Borough contributes significantly to the levels of serious acquisitive crime related to vehicles.
