Frequently Asked Questions
Who will benefit from this scheme?
Anyone living, working or visiting Solihull. The scheme gives everyone greater options around travel, improved public transport, reduced journey times, and makes travelling between the north and south of the borough far easier. This in turn will open up employment opportunities.
How will the scheme improve local bus services?
There will be more buses along several routes in Solihull and real-time information providing the latest journey time updates. There will also be better services in areas that are currently poorly served, and better links between the north and south of the borough. There will also be a knock-on effect on national coach services, improving arrangements for those people who travel to places outside of the borough.
How will the scheme improve congestion around the airport and NEC?
The improvements mean better public transport facilities, which reduces people’s need to use the car and so eases congestion. The bus lanes can also be used on a temporary basis by drivers.
How will the scheme improve employment opportunities?
The improved public transport will mean that people will be able to reach different areas far more easily, and open up opportunities for work.
How will the new bus services connect with the rail network?
There is a new interchange at Birmingham International Station, which connects people to the town centre.
Is this linked with the expansion Birmingham Airport?
No, it is completely independent.
How much has this scheme cost the Council?
Nothing - the £11m cost of the scheme came directly from government, after a successful bid at the end of 2008.
