Instrumental provision - assisted purchase scheme
Information on how students may be able to save money when purchasing new musical instruments.Students can sometimes purchase new instruments without paying VAT, saving an extra 17.5%.
The Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme is only for pupils attending a Solihull LEA school and who are receiving musical tuition as part of the curriculum. It only operates at the discretion of the Governors and Head teacher at your child's school
How does the scheme work?
- Approval is sought for assistance from your child's school.
- You/Your child selects an instrument.
- You pay the VAT Free amount to the School.
- The School places an order, pays for the instrument and claims back the VAT in the usual way.
- Your child can then collect the instrument from the school.
Rules
To use this scheme:
- Your child must be in full-time education at a Local Education Authority School.
- Your child must be receiving music tuition as part of the curriculum or receiving private tuition which supports the curriculum.
- The instrument must be appropriate for the pupil's needs
- The instrument must be portable
- The instrument must be sent to the school and then collected, by the pupil, from a designated teaching room
- The school must not profit from the purchase.
