Appeals
The law says any 'person affected' by a relevant decision can ask us to change our decision. It also states you can appeal to an independent appeal tribunal. -
Backdating
You may be able to claim Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit for a past period. This is called backdating. -

Council Tax - New claim
You can claim Council Tax Benefit if you are on Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Pension Credit or you are on a low income (this includes people who are self employed). -
Current claim
If you are currently receiving Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit and there is a change in your circumstances, you must let us know as immediately as it may affect the amount of benefit you receive. -
Discount
Information about the amount of Council Tax you have to pay and discounts available. -
Exemptions
Some properties are exempt from Council Tax. If you own or occupy a property that is described below and your bill does not show that an exemption has been granted, please contact us for advice. -
Overpayments
An overpayment is an amount of Benefit paid to you, which you were not entitlement to receive. If this happens, we will write to you. -
Paying Your Council Tax
We are responsible for collecting the Council Tax from all households in Solihull. -
Review
An award of Housing & Council Tax benefit lasts until there is a change in circumstances that means you no longer qualify or a doubt that all the conditions of entitlement are satisfied. -
