How to pay your Council Tax
We are responsible for collecting the Council Tax from all households in Solihull.
How you can pay your Council Tax
- Online https://www.solihull.gov.uk/epay/
- Direct Debit - This is the easiest way to pay. Over half of Solihull Council Tax payers have chosen this method of payment. To set up a Direct Debit, contact Solihull Connect on 0121 704 8100 or visit one of the Solihull Connect Walk in Centres.
- In Person - By Cash, Cheque or Card at Solihull Connect or an Area Housing Office. See office locations.
- By post - By cheque, to the address below (cheque should be paid to 'Solihull MBC' and it must have 'account payee only' written on it). Please write your bill reference number on the back of the cheque.
- Over the phone - By Debit/Credit card using the automatic 24 hour telephone service: 0121 704 0869

Payments can also be made at any Post Office or outlet that displays PayPoint or PAYzone

Post Office - you can pay by cash or cheque (payable to 'Post Office Counters Ltd') or debit card
To make payments at these outlets you will need your Council Tax Bill, Reminder or Final Notice. PayPoint and PAYzone are convenient and easy and can be found at local shops, supermarkets, newsagents and petrol stations.
Please note, to ensure the payment reaches us by the due date, you will need to pay five working days in advance.

Instalments
Bills are sent out, for the each financial year, in March. They are payable in 10 monthly instalments, however you can pay the bill all in one go.
Bills sent out after 31 December must be paid in full.
Where bills are sent out between these two dates, the number of instalments will be reduced proportionately.
Having Problems Paying Your Council Tax!
If you are having problems paying, contact us immediately on 0121 704 8100. Every effort will be made to make a mutually acceptable arrangement.
You may be entitled to Council Tax Benefit. Use the online calculator to check your entitlement.
Please note, that where payments are not received on time recovery action will be taken, the process is as follows :
- Reminder requests payments to be brought up-to-date within 7 days.
- Final Notice cancels the right to pay by monthly instalments, and therefore requests the remainder of the year's charge in full.
- Summons requests attendance at the Magistrates' Court, and means that additional costs will be added to your account.
- At the hearing Magistrates will grant a Liability Order, this gives the authority greater powers to recover the debt.
- Attachment to earnings or benefit deductions made directly from your earnings, or Income Support/Job Seeker's Allowance.
- Instruct bailiffs to collect the debt the authority may instruct bailiffs to collect the debt, they have the power to remove goods and arrange for them to be sold at auction. Any action taken by the the bailiff will mean further costs being added to your account.
- Committal Summons if the bailiff returns the account "unable to collect", the Council's next action could be to apply for the Council Tax Payer's committal to prison.
At any time during the recovery process:
Charging Order - the authority may place a Charging Order on your property.
Bankrupt - the authority can make you bankrupt.
At any stage during the process anyone who is experiencing difficulty in paying may contact the Customer Service Team on 0121 704 8100. Please do not allow the situation to become serious, avoid adding unnecessary costs to your account!
