Overpayments

An overpayment is an amount of Benefit paid to you, which you were not entitled to receive. If this happens, we will write to you.

The letter will tell you:-

• Why it happened
• How much the overpayment is
• If you have to pay back the amount
• How this will be recovered
• How you can appeal if you think this is wrong

If applicable we will send you a revised Council Tax bill or an invoice, with the overpayment shared across the remaining monthly instalments. If you are still entitled to housing benefit we will deduct the overpaid benefit from your on going entitlement.
