Robert Swindells: In the Nick of Time
Charlotte is out in the woods on her own one day when something mysterious happens - she walks along a row of stones laid like stepping-stones on the forest floor... and finds herself in another age. She has somehow slipped back to 1955, and is now, in the same woods, on the site of a very unique school, an open-air school for sick city children. No one believes her tales of the world she's come from, her mobile doesn't work and she can't see how on earth she's going to get back. A friendship with another pupil proves the key - is Jack more than he seems?

"In The Nick Of Time is about a young girl called Charlotte who goes back in time when the war was taking place . I really enjoyed this book because it was quite exciting and had a lot of detail when she went back in time. I really like the author Robert Swindells because in our English lessons we have been reading some of his books (Room 13 and Inside the Worm). The book taught me about schools back in time and told what happened in them and that schools are a lot lot nicer now. I would rate this book at 8/10. "

"When Charlotte's granddad becomes ill, she decides she can't face seeing him in hospital, so she goes for a walk in the woods with her best friend. But, when she walks along the row of stone steps, she slips and finds herself in 1955! There, in the place of the trees that Charlotte is so familiar with, is a school like she as never seen before, an open-air school for ill city children. She is thought to be mad when she tells everyone where she has come from and what technology she knows of. There is only one person who trusts her, believes her tales, even when others do not... Jack. Charlotte finds this new life extremely hard to get used to. Afternoon naps, no mobile phones and many strange rules and regulations. A beautiful friendship blooms between Charlotte and Jack. They do everything together, they get in trouble together, play together and even run away together. Jack can always cheer Charlotte up when she cannot find a way back to her world of normality. Will she ever return home? Why does she feel she knows Jack so well? Have they met before? Or will they meet again? I really like this book because it was mysterious and kept you guessing and thinking of possible outcomes. I like the way the 2 years are linked by 1 person. I think Robert Swindells is a very good author and I will read more of his books in the future."

"I liked the book, In The Nick of Time. I think this was a very enjoyable book to read. I liked the part when she slid down the stones and the went back in time to 1955. My most enjoyable part of the book was when she had a friend called Jack lee and when she went back to her own world and then found out that her grandfathers' nickname was Jack lee! I loved this book because it was very vivid, dramatic and very exciting."

I really enjoyed this book it was fantastic, I would recomend it to anyone. The best part was when they decided to run away. When reading the book I felt that I was actually there. The ending of the book was really sad when she found out that it was her grandad. it made me wonder how would I would feel if one of my close relatives died. Many people die every day there must be a lot of upset people.

In the nick of time - how do i explain how much i enjoyed that book! I loved the way that Jack was her grandad. It would'nt matter how many times you could read that book, it would never be enough. I also liked the way that the author always explained - in great detail - how characters behaved, acted and spoke to other people. If I could vote for all of the 3 books, i would vote for all of them twice. I ca'nt really rember the author's name - no offense if you're reading this - but whoever they are they must have like lived life and left none for us, cause how else would you have such a great imagination, and i'me just hoping they didnt go back in time and escape from the local school with a boy called Jake! Bye x
