Business Improvement District

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a partnership between the local business community and a local authority to develop projects and services that will benefit the trading environment within the boundary of a commercial area. There are over 80 similar BIDS already operating in the UK, including those in Leamington, Stratford Upon Avon and three in Birmingham.

Following a successful "yes" vote in March 2010 by Solihull businesses and organisations, Solihull now has its own Business Improvement District.

This five year initiative seeks to attract more business and visitors to Solihull Town Centre, through three major initiatives, including improved marketing, security and accessibility.

The BID will be funded by a 1% levy on properties with a rateable value of £10,000 or more within the BID area, which encompasses a large part of Solihull Town Centre.

A new independent, not for profit company, Solihull BID Company Limited, has been formed and has been supported by a voluntary board.
