Motor Salvage Operator Licence

Any person in the district of Solihull, who carries on a business that involves the recovery of salvageable parts from motor vehicles and the subsequent sale or disposal for scrap of the remainder of the vehicle, or the purchase of 'written off' vehicles for repair or resale, or other related activities needs to register that business with Solihull Council

Salvage Operators must maintain appropriate records of all vehicle purchases and disposals, in order that the Police, who have a right of entry to the premises (without a warrant), can make proper enquiries in respect of the business.

Full details of the legislation governing Motor Salvage Operators can be found in the Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 and Vehicle (Crime) Act 2001.
