Joint Strategic Waste Management

(1)           The Cabinet Member:

Noted and commented on the draft joint strategic review of Waste Report and Executive Summary.

Endorsed the key principles as follows:

Continued commitment to Energy from Waste through the Coventry and Solihull Waste to Energy Plant.

Work in partnership to develop integrated and holistic waste management strategies.

To explore new contract arrangement with Coventry and Solihull Waste Disposal Company Limited whilst reviewing the current management/financial arrangements of the LAWDC.

To abandon the current PFI OBC and advise DEFRA to this effect.

 

(2)           Approved the development of a high level action plan to address the following:

Strategic direction.

Service development.

Customer services and community participation.

Waste management operations.

 

To provide an update in respect of activity to consider future arrangements for waste management in Coventry and Solihull and to approve the proposed action to progress the project.

Petition – Bickenhill Lane, Marston Green

To receive the petition signed by 12 residents in respect of the provision of strong trees and shrubs to stop ball games, cycling and youths gathering in large numbers;

To note and approve combined multi agency approach to achieving a mutually acceptable solution;

To install “keep off the grass signs” and planting; and

To receive a further report in November 2005.

To receive the petition signed by 16 residents bringing attention to the increased amount of anti-social behaviour in the footpath from Dawley Crescent / Hamar Way to Berwicks Lane; and

To receive a petition signed by 16 residents bringing attention to the increased amount of anti-social behaviour following the opening of the pathway from Dawley Crescent/Hamar Way to Berwicks Lane.

To receive the petition signed by 251 Damson Wood Infant School parents, pupils and teachers;

To note the concerns raised by Cllr Hawkins; and

To note and approve proposed action.

To receive a petition signed by 251 Damson Wood Infant School parents, pupils and teachers expressing sadness at the vandalism of the local park off Luddington Road and requesting the installation of a high fence and overnight locking.

To seek Cabinet Member endorsement of action originally proposed in the Best Value Review of public conveniences in respect of Meriden toilets.
