Children's Centres in Solihull
Solihull’s Sure Start Children’s Centres aim to offer families of young children help, advice, support and information on all aspects of parenting in order to give every child the best possible start in life.
What do Children's Centres do?
Children's Centres bring together a wide range of services for families with children under five and children under eight with additional needs or disabilities. The centre’s create a one-stop shop within the community for parents/carers and providers of childcare and family support.
Any adult caring for a child under five or under eight with additional needs can register and access services at any of the 14 children's centres across the borough. This includes grandparents, fathers, foster carers and childminders. Parents-to-be are also welcome.
At centres you can:
- Do activities like stay and plays, baby massage, story times and special groups for fathers
- Get information on health, childcare, benefits, family support and much more
- Get support to get back into training or employment
- Attend training for parents (for example parenting classes, basic skills)
- Get support and advice while you are pregnant, after your child is born and as your child grows
- Use the coffee areas where you and your child can play together and relax
- A sensory room is available at Shirley Heath and Open Award Children's Centre and Chelmsley Wood Children's Centre
- There are weekly drop-ins with a creche, for families who have a child with an additional need or disability, at Lyndon, Shirley Heath, Bentley Heath and Chelmsley Wood Children's Centres
