Stop Press:

Equality Framework for Local Government Logo for Achieving Level

Solihull Council has become the first authority in the country to successfully go through a Diversity Peer   Challenge of the new Equality Framework for Local Government (EFLG). We asked to be considered against the requirements for an “Achieving” authority and the assessors confirmed that we had attained that level. Councillor Bob Sleigh, Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities, highlighted this achievement in a Press Release on 29 October 2009. For more information on the EFLG and the Achieving level, please go to our Equality Framework for Local Government webpage.

As a Council, we aim to provide excellent, accessible services that meet the needs of all our residents. We also aim to be an equal opportunities employer, acting positively to ensure we recruit, train and retain a diverse workforce.

We are committed to promoting equal opportunities through policies and strategies that ensure equal access to all our services and provide people with equal opportunities in getting jobs and in career development.  Those policies and strategies are outlined in Solihull's Equality and Diversity Scheme. They build on the principles and framework outlined in our Corporate Equal Opportunities Policy.

These pages explain in more detail the duties of the Council and how we are going about meeting our equality and diversity commitments, together with the work of Solihull's Equalities Team.  We have also provided background information on the sometimes complex equalities issues underlying what we do.

Please use the list of pages below to navigate your way around.  You will also be able to download from the "Attachments" sections of each page relevant policies, strategies, reports and statistics on the issues covered.

We have made every effort to make these pages as useful, user-friendly and accurate as possible.  However, should you identify any errors, anything we have missed, have any suggestions or require more information about any issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We welcome your contributions.
