Str8 Up - Young Persons Drug and Alcohol Service
Str8 Up - Young Persons Drug and Alcohol Service
What do we do?
If you are a young person (under 18 years ) we can provide support if
- you are having difficulty with your own drug or alcohol use or,
- you are affected by your parents drug or alcohol use.
You must be under 18 years old. You must also live in Solihull OR attend a school in Solihull. If you are not sure, please call us and we can find out.
If you are having difficulty with your own drug or alcohol use
We will arrange to meet you at a convenient place (this can be home, school, or a youth club). This meeting will give you the chance to ask us any questions you have and decide if you would like further support from us. The support that we offer is provided on a one-to-one basis. It is best to discuss this with you when we meet. Some of the things we do include helping you to identify ways to reduce and stop your drug or alcohol use, counselling and linking you into activities. The support you get is always based on what you want.
If you are affected by your parents drug or alcohol use
We will arrange to meet you at a convenient place (this can be home, school, or a youth club). This meeting will give you the chance to ask us any questions you have and decide if you would like further support from us. The support can be provided on a one-to-one basis or for the younger age range we have activity based groups which are planned throughout the year. The groups include day trips, drama and fun and games in a relaxed friendly atmosphere with other young people who face similar issues to yourself.
Do you have to tell anyone that I am seeing you or that I come to one of your groups?
For most young people we do not need your parents/carers permission for you to see us. However, if you are under 12 years old we will need your parents/carers permission for you to attend our group activities or one to one sessions.
We offer a confidential service, this means that we would not share information about you with anyone else unless you told us we could. However, there are exceptions to this. We have to tell other people information about you when we think you are being harmed, or your at risk of being harmed, or you are harming someone else. When you have your first meeting with us, we will explain in more detail what this means.
How can I arrange to see you?
- You can call our office and arrange a first appointment
- You can ask a family member or friend to call us on your behalf
- If you have a social worker, youth worker, Connexions worker or another trusted adult you can ask them to make a referral on your behalf
