Community & Economic Regeneration - Clusters and Corridors

Corridors

Information about clusters and corridors in Solihull

Advantage West Midlands, the Regional Development Agency, has identified a number of areas which are hot-spots for High-Technology companies. The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire High-Technology Corridor is one such designated area. Solihull MBC has been actively involved in the development of a number of projects aimed at supporting businesses in this area.

CSW High-Technology Corridor

Following the break up of Rover Group in 2000, Advantage West Midlands, led a regional response, focussing on how best to support and enhance diversification of the regional economy.

One of the essential elements identified was the development of new business and new employment in key growth industries. Three areas were identified as offering the best opportunities:

  • The A38 Corridor (Birmingham 0 Worcester)
  • The Black Country 0 Telford Corridor;
  • The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Corridor

The CSW Corridor was seen to have particular strengths in ICT, Software and Transport Technologies, which could be built upon to offer greater opportunities not just for this area but also for the region as a whole.

A group of partners including Solihull MBC came together to develop a range of projects (supported with Rover Task Force funding) to help encourage growth. Initial activities are now underway, with priorities for action including:

  • Promoting networking and collaboration among ICT and Transport Technology companies;
  • Identifying and helping to meet skills needs in ICT companies;
  • Supporting the uptake and development of design within SMEs in the target sectors;
  • Identifying sites and developing 'grow-on' space for ICT and Transport Technology Businesses;
  • Promoting CSW as a successful location for ICT and Transport Technologies businesses employment.
