Drugs
Most young people don't take drugs, and most of those that do try drugs don't continue using them. As FRANK (a government health agency providing help and information around drugs and drug use) point out, it is far more likely that a young person will develop an alcohol problem than a problem with illegal drugs.
You can't stop your child coming into contact with drugs – but you can help them by being informed and influencing them to take the right decision if they do come into contact with drugs.
FRANK can give you advice and information – you can call them on 0800 77 66 00 or visit their website at www.talktofrank.com/ where you will find loads of information and the chance to order leaflets online from the "Getting Help" page, including "A Parents' Guide to Drugs and Alcohol". FRANK have also recently updated their booklet "All about drugs - does your child know more than you?" which can be downloaded from www.homeoffice.gov.uk/materials/Parents_Leaflet.pdf
There's a useful site called Drugrapp at www.familyrapp.com/drugrapp-startpage.asp which includes information and links. You might find the "Drugs A-Z" link there useful - it takes you to part of the Drugscope website which you can access separately at www.drugscope.org.uk/ The Drug Information section on that site includes the A-Z and also downloads of information booklets in a range of other languages.
