Higher Education

Thinking about going to University or College to take a Higher Education (HE) course?  Then our new Higher Education Guide 2011/12 can help you with your decisions.  You can download a copy from the Attachments Section on the right.

You will find everything you need to know about applying to HE, including:-

  • developing course ideas
  • researching course ideas
  • finalising course ideas
  • making an application
  • writing a personal statement
  • student finance
  • weblinks

Each section in the Guide has lots of information and help, as well as links to all the essential HE websites you'll need.

If you would like any further help with your Higher Education decisions, you can contact your Personal Adviser (PA) in School, College or at a Connexions Centre.

Personal Advisers give information, advice, guidance and support to young people aged 13 to 19 (and up to age 25 for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities).

For more information about the financial support available and the benefits of going to university or college, visit Direct Gov, student finance section.

What Do Graduates Do?

To further assist with your career planning for higher education, take a look at What Do Graduates Do? 2011 , a publication written by the Higher Education Careers Services Unit (HECSU) and the Education Liaison Task Group of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS).

As well as aiming to help you understand the impact a degree or foundation course will have on your future, it includes:-

  • the latest information and trends
  • a graduate employment review
  • articles offering an insight into each subject area
  • what employers are looking for in a graduate employee
  • references to further reading and websites
