Health Service Consultations and Health Scrutiny
When Healthcare Trusts (the NHS) propose major changes to services, health scrutiny has a role to play in considering whether consultation has been adequate and whether the proposals are in the interests of the health of local people.
In Solihull, the Healthier Communities Scrutiny Board holds the responsibility for health scrutiny. If the Board do not think that a consultation has been adequate or they do not feel that the proposal is in the interests of the health of local people, they can make a referral to the Secretary of State who may choose to look into the matter further.
When a consultation proposal covers more than one Local Authority, Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committees are formed which involve Councillors from two or more local authorities.
