Byelaws and Alcohol Restricted Zone Orders
Over the years the Council has introduced a number of byelaws and alcohol restricted zone orders.
These cover a variety of situations ranging from restricting the drinking of alcohol in public places and other forms of nuisance to the use of public facilities.
The byelaws are used to supplement the general law and will be enforced when necessary either by the Police or by the Council Directorate responsible for the particular service.
Glascote Close and surrounding area consultation
In 2011 a petition was presented to the Council requesting that Glascote Close and the surrounding grassed areas be declared as an alcohol restricted zone in an effort to reduce the level of underage drinking and anti social behaviour in the area.

The Governance Committee at their meeting in October agreed
(I) That Officers be authorised to carry out consultation under Section 13 of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001, in respect of the area of Glascote Close and adjoining public open space, Shirley as shown on the plan (the consultation to also include residents of Stanton Road), and
(ii) The Chief Executive be authorised to make a Designation Order in respect of the proposed area in the event of there being no objections and to undertake all further steps as required to bring a designation into effect as soon as practicable.
The attached notice explains why we think the order should be made, explains the consequences and invites you to comment on the proposed designation order before a final decision is made.
Representations with respect to the proposals should be made in writing and addressed to the Director of Governance, P O Box 18, Council House, Solihull, West Midlands B91 9QS or by email to: sgill@solihull.gov.uk
Comments must be received no later than 3rd March 2012 if they are to be taken into account.
