Census Information

Accessing Census Information

The Census is a count of all people and households and is the most complete source of information about the population that we have. The latest Census was held on Sunday 29 April 2001.

Where Can I Access Census Information?

  • Census records for places within the present borough of Solihull 1841-1901 are available on microfilm/microfiche at Solihull Heritage and Local Studies Service on the 1st floor of Central Library.
  • Records are also held on CD for Warwickshire (1851 only) and for the whole of England and Wales (1881 only).
  • More recent censuses up to 2001 are also available but only include statistical information, not details of individuals.
  • You can access 1901 census records at National Archives - 1901 Census. There is a charge to access the information. You can buy vouchers to access the site in multiples of £5 from Solihull Heritage and Local Studies Service. This is based on the first floor of Central Library, Homer Road, Solihull. Telephone 0121 704 6977. The vouchers are also available from any branch library in Solihull.
  • Details of the latest (2011) Census are available on this site, at National Statistics - 2011 Census from all public libraries, and also from the Council's Forward Planning Team (sustainabledevelopment@solihull.gov.uk)
