Elections - Proxy Votes
If you are unable to get to your Polling Station on election day, you can apply for a proxy vote. A proxy is someone who can go to the polling station and vote on your behalf.
Am I eligible for a proxy vote?
You can register if you:
- Frequently work overseas
- Will be on holiday when the election takes place
- Have moved house and unable to go to your old polling station.
- Are working during all hours of voting, for example as a member of the election staff.
You can choose to have a proxy vote for a particular election, for a certain period of time or until further notice. You can also choose to cover just Parliamentary or Local Elections, or both.
Depending on your reasons for not being able to vote in person, you may need someone to support your application - for example a doctor, a registered nurse or a care home warden.
You can register for a permanent proxy vote if you:
- Have a permanent physical incapacity, or
- Are registered blind, or
- Receive the higher rate of mobility component of the disability living allowance for a physical disability
- The registration form will need to be signed by a doctor, nurse or warden of a home.
