Nursery education - summary

The Council provides nursery education for children beginning in the September following their 3rd birthday.

Council-run nurseries

There are nursery units in all of our infant and primary schools. The units offer five half-day sessions a week for children from the September after their third birthday. A session is two-and-a-half hours, either in the morning or afternoon. Each nursery has one qualified member of staff for every 10 children.

A number of Solihull schools have extra childcare facilities on site, either to 'top up' a session or offer full-time childcare. This extra care is called 'wrap-around provision'.

When to apply

Children born between 1 September 2004 and 31 August 2005 can start nursery in September 2008. You must apply for your child's nursery place using our nursery application form. If you live outside Solihull you can apply for a place at a Solihull nursery. The forms and a booklet will be available from August 2007. You can phone the School Admissions Team or download the information.
