Admission to nursery school
Nursery education - summary
The Council provides nursery education at schools for children beginning in the September following their 3rd birthday.
Council-run nurseries
There are nursery units in all of our infant and primary schools. The units offer 15 hours per week for children from the September after their third birthday. Each nursery has one qualified member of staff for every 10 children.
A number of Solihull schools have extra childcare facilities on site, either to 'top up' a session or offer full-time childcare. This extra care is called 'wrap-around provision'.
When to apply
Children born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007 can start nursery in September 2010. You must apply for your child's nursery place using our nursery application form. If you live outside Solihull you can apply for a place at a Solihull nursery. The forms and a booklet will be available from August 2009. You can phone the School Admissions Team or download the information.

How do we measure the distance from a home to a school?
If an application for a place at any Solihull school needs a distance measurement this is calculated by our admissions system using ADDRESS-POINT®. ADDRESS-POINT® provides a national grid co-ordinate and a unique reference for each postal address in Great Britain. The grid reference is provided to a resolution of 0.1 metre (10cm). The accuracy of each ADDRESS-POINT® is such that each point will fall within the addressed building.
Admission arrangements for voluntary-aided schools
You can apply for a voluntary-aided school on our application form. Each voluntary-aided school has its own admissions criteria. This will normally take account of your religion and whether you go to church.
