Redundancy Support
If you have been made redundant or are at risk of being made redundant, Solihull Council’s Employment Team may be able to help. We are working closely with partners such as Jobcentre Plus, The Learning and Skills Council, and Advantage West Midlands to deliver the support needed by employers and individuals affected by redundancy. We offer an advice and sign posting service to individuals who are out of work and looking to get back into employment or training. There are a range of services in Solihull that can help individuals access work and training opportunities.
The “Employed for Success” Information Pack gives advice on a range of topics relating to accessing work or training and an A to Z of services to help you find the right service for you. For further information, please call the team on 0121 704 8732, or e-mail us at employmentteam@solihull.gov.uk.
Solihull is in an excellent location with many opportunities to offer with considerable scope for economic and employment growth. However, the borough still faces a number of challenges in terms of maximising its potential and ensuring the best use of opportunities is made.
To do this, it is essential for Solihull to tackle issues around long-term unemployment, participation in education and raising the level of skills within the borough to allow access to all opportunities.
To remain competitive, Solihull must provide business with the skilled workforce it needs to survive and grow by offering a range of learning and training opportunities.
However, Solihull Council is unable to achieve this in isolation so works in partnership with a number of key agencies to deliver a variety of solutions helping local residents access the opportunities that are available. Our partners include Job Centre Plus, Birmingham and Solihull Learning and Skills Council and Solihull College to name but a few.
Some examples of the work we are currently involved in are detailed below:
Solihull Provider Forum
The Council has established a group with partners to tackle some of the difficulties that people in Chelmsley Wood, Smith's Wood, Fordbridge and Kingshurst face when they want to get a job. This group, known as the Provider Forum is working together to ensure that the services provided in these areas are relevant to the community and accessible to everyone.
There are a wide variety of people involved in the group and these range from local organisations like the Community Development Trust (Colebridge Trust), Pertemps People Development Group, Solihull Connexions and Solihull College through to larger national organisations like Job Centre Plus and the Birmingham and Solihull Learning and Skills Council.
For more information on the work of the Forum, please contact the Community & Economic Regeneration team on 0121 704 8219 or via e-mail at economicdev@solihull.gov.uk
