Artist Information
In 2001 I left my job and gained a place on a Fine Art Degree course. During this time I became interested in spectator identification and the cinematic image, and how the boundaries between fact and fiction are becoming increasingly ambiguous. My paintings are an attempt to separate recognised images from their contextual narrative and subvert their original meanings. I often paint onto aluminium, or use aluminium leaf on canvas, as a metaphor for the 'silver screen' of cinema.
I also work in portraiture in oils on board or canvas from photographs.
I'm currently working as a teaching assistant whilst studying for a masters degree in Fine Art at BIAD Margaret Street (UCE) City Centre.
How to view the work
Some of my paintings can be viewed at City Art Gallery, Frederick Street, The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham B1 3HH
