Black Box Recycling Collection
Use your black recycling box to recycle your glass, tins and cans.
We will collect your black box every fortnight on the same day as your normal rubbish collection.

What can you put in your black recycling box?
Yes Please:

- Food cans/tins
- Drink cans/tins
- Metal caps and lids from jars/bottles
- Aluminium food trays
No thanks:
- Pyrex style glass
- Light bulbs
- Drinking glasses
- Broken glass
- Vases
- Other metal items
- Aerosol cans
What do I have to do on the day of my collection?
Please put your boxes and recycling sack out by 7.00am on the day of collection at the edge of your property (where it meets the pavement). If your home doesn't front directly onto the pavement or you live on a private drive, please place your box where your boundary meets the pavement.
Assisted Collection Service
We have an Assisted Collection Service for residents who are unable to place their wheelie bins and recycling boxes and sack out for collection due to infirmity or disability.

Should I clean out tins, cans and bottles first?
Yes please. Simply rinse out containers in the last of your washing up water and leave them to drain before putting in your recycling box/sack. If your bottle has a metal top or lid, please remove this before putting it in your black recycling box. You do not need to remove the labels on tins/cans or bottles. -
My box isn't big enough for two weeks worth of recycling
We will collect side waste. Please put your extra recycling in a container such as a cardboard box or in a plastic bag. We will return these inside your recycling box. -
Why are collections only every two weeks
Carrying out collections in this way is better for the environment and offers you value for money as it means we don't need extra trucks. -
Can I put coloured glass in the box
Yes -
My box doesn't have a lid
The black boxes don't need a lid as they have holes in the bottom to let the water out. -
Why do you not collect glass oven dishes
These are made of glass that needs a higher temperature to melt. -
Do I need to remove the labels off jars and bottles?
No need -
Why do you not collect vases
Some glass vases contain lead which means they can't be recycled. Why not take your old vases to a charity shop instead. -
Why do you not collect light bulbs
Light bulbs contain filaments which cannot be recycled with the glass. You can wrap them and put them in your sack with your normal rubbish. -
Why can't you collect broken glass
This is dangerous for you and our contractors who carry out the collections. -
Can I recycle the metal tops and lids from glass jars and bottles?
Yes - metal tops and lids from glass jars and bottles can be recycled in your black box. Please remove the top/lid from the jar or bottle before placing it in your box.
