Replacement Wheelie bin or recycling container

How do I get my container repaired or my container replaced?

We will repair or replace any containers which are damaged by the collection operatives free of charge. If you have lost, had stolen or damaged the container yourself there will be a charge to replace these.

Please contact us on 0121 704 8000 to request a replacement container.

Can I collect my replacement container?

Yes, if you have purchased a container, then collections can be made from Central Depot, Moat Lane between 9am and 12pm and 2pm to 3pm Monday to Friday.  Please note that collections cannot be made on the same day as purchase. However, if a container is being supplied free of charge it will be delivered to your property. Alternatively lids can be collected from our Solihull Connect walk in centre, Solihull Library, Library Square.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are you charging for replacement containers?
    Every household in the borough was provided with wheelie bins and recycling containers when the services started. However, the Council can no longer meet the cost of providing people with replacements.
  • When do I need to let you know my container has gone missing or been damaged?
    Please notify us within two working days of your collection day if your container has been damaged or gone missing. We will then investigate and repair or replace where appropriate.

  • Why can we only collect boxes and wheelie bins from the Central Depot?
    We are unable to store large quantities of containers at our Solihull Connect walk in centres as they have limited space.
  • What if I don’t want to pay for replacement recycling containers?
    You can take your recycling to one of our mini recycling centres or to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • What if I don’t want to pay for a replacement green wheelie bin?
    You can compost your garden waste at home or take it to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • What if I don’t want to pay for a replacement black wheelie bin?
    We no longer collect refuse in black sacks. You can take your refuse to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • Doesn’t my council tax cover this cost?
    Every household in the borough was provided with wheelie bins and recycling containers when the services started. However, the Council can no longer meet the cost of providing people with replacements.
  • Do we have to provide proof of payment on collection?
    We will provide you with a unique reference number which you need to provide when collecting  your container.
  • If you are charging can I purchase an additional black/green wheelie bin?
    No, we only supply one black wheelie bin per property. Additional green wheelie bins can be purchased as part of our additional green garden waste services or alternatively extra green waste can be taken to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • What happens if I have paid for a replacement container and it has not been delivered?
    You have the option to sign for delivery on an allocated delivery day. However if you choose not to be in when the delivery takes place then you will take on the risk of the container going missing.
  • What happens to old containers or wheelie bins once you have collected them?
    They are taken to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre where they are recycled.
  • Why does it cost me extra to have my container or lid delivered?
    This is to cover the additional cost of an operative and van.
  • If I can’t have a replacement green wheelie bin for free, can I just put my garden waste in with my household rubbish?
    No. We will not collect your black wheelie bin if there is garden waste inside. You can compost your garden waste at home or you can take it to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • If I can’t have a replacement black wheelie bin for free, can I use my green wheelie bin for household waste?
    No. We will not collect your green wheelie bin if it has household waste inside.
  • If I can’t have a replacement black wheelie bin for free then can I have purple sacks?
    Purple sacks are only given to properties which are unsuitable to accommodate a wheelie bin.
  • Can I purchase additional recycling containers?
    Yes, you can purchase additional recycling boxes and white sacks.
  • Can I purchase a wheelie bin elsewhere and use it?
    We can only empty Council identifiable wheelie bins.
