Blue Tongue - control and protection zones
Following outbreaks of Bluetongue disease in Cambridgeshire and Kent, Defra has declared an amendment to the Protection Zone around the places where disease has been confirmed. The extended Protection Zone broadly covers eastern, central and southern England.
Premises in Solihull, or a part of premises, are believed to lie within the amended Protection Zone and it is therefore necessary to advise you that you are now subject to the conditions and movement restrictions that apply.
If you are outside the foot and mouth Restricted Zone the following movements can take place:
- There are no restrictions on the movement of pigs as they are not susceptible to Bluetongue
- You can move ruminants
- anywhere within the Protection Zone
- to specially licenced abattoirs outside the Protection Zone
- into the Control Zone, however, you must comply with the movement restrictions within the Control Zone
- into the Protection Zone from the area outside the FMD Restricted Zone.
The following movements can not take place:
- You cannot move animals from the Protection Zone unless to a licensed abattoir.
Other movements out of the Protection Zone as at 17 October, are not allowed.
Please visit the Defra website at http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/latest/2007/animal-bluetongue-1018.htm for information about movement restrictions on Bluetongue if you have livestock.
