Hazardous Household Waste Collection Service

We can collect small amounts of Hazardous Household Chemicals from residents of Solihull. We provide the service every three months.

What can you collect?

The service is for chemicals such as:

  • Household chemicals, e.g. battery acid, phosphoric acid, Anti Freeze
  • Garden chemicals, e.g. pesticides, herbicides, feeds
  • Powdered or solid chemicals e.g. lawn feeds, weed killers etc

Please note we retain the right to refuse a collection if the waste is found to be unacceptable under our licence conditions.

Please note that the service excludes asbestos.

  • The service is limited, up to five items per household
  • Items must be no more than 5 litres and 5 kilograms in size

When are the collections made?

Collections are made Monday to Friday, during office hours.

We will telephone the resident to advise the date of collection.

You don't need to be in but the items for collection must be presented at the front of the property clearly marked so they can be easily identified.

Only listed items will be collected, wastes not described or listed will not be taken

If booking by telephone please ensure that the following details of the chemicals are to hand prior to booking the collection

  • Chemical name
  • Amount
  • Size of container
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • A contact number

This service is for household chemical waste only and waste from commercial activities is excluded. See Commercial Waste Collections.

Advice to residents about the safe storage of hazardous chemicals

Chemicals and hazardous materials should be kept in their original containers.

Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children

Do not pour hazardous household waste down the sink, drain or toilet.

Never mix chemicals.
