Local Nature Reserves

Local Nature Reserves (LNR's) can offer a space to walk, talk, think, learn and play, or simply enjoy. The lliving green spaces, including LNR's that form parts of our towns, cities and villages are important to us, not only bacause they support a rich and vibrant variety of wildlife, but because they make the places where we live and work healthier and less stressful.

LNR's are declared by local authorities in conjunction with English Nature to reflect areas of locally important nature conservation or amenity value and to give access to the public. Management plans are produced for LNR's with the overall aim to protect and enhance biodiversity in line with Council Strategies (Nature Conservation, Woodland, Green Spaces) and local, regional and national policies (LBAP, WMBO, UKBAP).

Conservation volunteers undertake much of the habitat management work in LNRs across the Borough.
