Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why do I have to pay for Pest Control Call Outs and Treatments? Are the costs not included in my Council Tax?
There is no statutory obligation for the Local Authority to provide a Pest Control Service. By making a modest charge for pest control, the Local Authority is able to offer the residents of Solihull MBC a good quality, competitively priced service which is often cheaper than the majority of private pest control companies.
Also, under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Acts, all owners of land have a legal duty to keep their land free from rats and mice.
Q. A Pest Control Officer has called out and given advice but recommends no treatment is required at this point in time, can I get a refund?
Our Pest Control charges are based on a call out charge not on treatment/treatments charges. This point is made clear at the time of booking and no refunds are offered.
Q. How quickly can you respond to my problem?
A service request can be raised for a Pest Control Officer to call out and visit based on your availability and the availability of appointments. Usually an appointment will be booked within 5 working days, however during our peak summer months this maybe longer.
Q. How can I get rid of rats?
Rats breed rapidly, are very adaptable and highly mobile. This combination makes rat control a difficult task for the untrained individual. Different DIY shops do offer pest control solutions but we would recommend a professional treatment.
Q. I had a wasp nest treated but it was not removed. Does this mean wasps will use this nest next year?
No. Wasps do not use the same nest twice, although they may make a new nest close to the original nest.
Q. I work full time, can a Pest Control Officer visit outside of my working day?
The Pest Control Officers operate flexible working hours Monday to Friday. We already operate First Call slots each day between 800am - 930am.
Q. What should I do if I see a rodent in my garden?
Contact us on 0121 704 8000 to book a service request call out. The call out visit and first treatment and any subsequent treatment visits are included in the service request. Refer to Charges Tables.
