Household waste - refuse collection service

Solihull Council and Enterprise Managed Services Plc aim to provide the best quality of service possible within the resources available, at the lowest cost to you.

This page explains the standard of service you can expect and how you can help to ensure the service runs to the highest standard. It also provides information on whom to contact should the service fail.

What we will do

  • Collect your household refuse once per week on the same day (this excludes the Christmas and New Year bank holidays, there may be some disruption to service) The refuse collection service operates Monday to Friday and refuse is collected as normal on all other bank holidays You can check  what day your refuse is collected on this site.
  • Remove all normal household refuse that is contained in disposable sacks. This does not include, bulky items for which a separate service is available or garden waste
  • Supply and deliver a roll of 26 replacement refuse sacks every 13 weeks, this equates to two per week. If you do not think you have received your roll of black bags please call Enterprise Managed Services Plc on 0121 704 8460 or complete the Request Black Bags form (below) . If you run out of sacks you will need to purchase extra bags yourself until the next scheduled delivery.
  • Please note that residential properties that have their waste collected from a large waste container do not receive refuse sacks
  • Maintain a direct dial telephone, 0121 704 8460 service throughout the working day and an answer phone at all other times
  • Collect your green garden waste  fortnightly.
  • Alternatively you may take your green garden waste to Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre where it is recycled into compost

    • If your household refuse is not collected on the nominated day, please contact Enterprise Managed Services Plc on 0121 704 8460 or complete our Report the missed collection form (below). Your refuse will be collected the same day it if is reported before 12pm Monday - Friday. If it is reported after 12pm Monday - Thursday your refuse will be collected the next working day, if reported on a Friday your refuse will be collected on the following Monday
    • Provide a Bulky Waste Collection Service  for a nominal charge

We endeavour to collect refuse to a very high standard but if you feel that the refuse collectors have left your road in an unacceptable condition following a collection, please call Enterprise Managed Services Plc on 0121 704 8460 or complete the Refuse Collection Mess form (below).

    How you can help

    • Please have your refuse available for 6.30am on, or as near as possible to your own property and ensure that it remains available if the collection is delayed. Refuse must not be put on public land until the evening before collection day. Please note that refuse not made available for 6.30am will not be collected until the following week
    • If you live in an flat or apartment block with security doors or gates, please ensure that the trade button is available or that the doors or gates are open between the hours of 6.30am and 2pm
    • Let us know if your refuse has not been collected on the programmed day on 0121 704 8460
    • Always tie your refuse sacks, to prevent avoidable spillage and littering
    • Wrap all sharp objects before putting them into your sack to prevent injury to the refuse collectors
    • Don't put paint in your refuse sack. A facility is provided at Bickenhill site  to dispose and recycle paint
    • Put all garden refuse in the 'official' pre-paid Solihull MBC. green garden bags or into your green garden waste wheelie bin. By spring 2008 all properties in the borough will have a wheelie bin for the collection of garden waste. Garden waste will be collected fortnightly and recycled from April to November. During the winter months garden waste must be placed in official pre paid garden sacks and will be collected fortnightly with the domestic refuse.
  • Recycle as much of your waste as possible by utilising the Mini Recycling Centres and Bickenhill
  • If you wish to report a missed collection out of hours, please call 0121 704 8460 and leave a message on the answer machine, stating the full details, this includes, your name and address, a contact number, type of waste, location of waste and amount. Alternatively use our online form (below). The refuse will be collected the following working day. If the report is made on a Friday, the refuse will be collected on the Monday.
