Solihull as a community is changing. It is becoming more diverse both in terms of its residents and its daytime population and the Council aims to create a sense of belonging for all communities. A more diverse Solihull can bring with it vibrancy, an enriched culture and strong cohesive neighbourhoods.
Diversity is about recognising, understanding and celebrating differences, which can add real value and enjoyment to all people’s lives.
The Council strives to serve the whole community regardless of race, age, gender, religion or belief, disability and sexual orientation. We take pride in recognising that we are a better Council, not only for having a diverse population, but also for having an increasingly diverse workforce to deliver our services.
To help us all to gain a better understanding of the diversity of our Borough and foster a strong sense of community, we need to acknowledge and recognise some of the major cultural festivals which are important to the communities that live, work and study within Solihull.
So in order to highlight the history, cultural heritage, achievements and valued contributions that African, African Caribbean and Asian communities make to British society, we are pleased to be celebrating the annual international festival ‘Black History Month’ during October 2008.
All events are free unless otherwise stated. They are open to everyone, so whatever your background, taste or interests, we think that there is something for everyone to enjoy during this year’s Black History Month celebration in Solihull.
We do hope you enjoy them.
