Advice to Road Users
- Do not travel in severe weather unless journey is essential
- Check local and national weather forecasts before setting out and take warm clothes, food, water, boots, a torch and spade
- Drive with care even after roads are salt treated and keep your distance - it can take 10 times longer to stop in icy conditions
- Please be aware that during heavy snow fall and sub zero temperatures it does take longer for the salt to react on the road, it also takes the action of the traffic to break down the snow to help the thawing process. It is therefore important that people driving through the Borough during these conditions take extreme care and only travel if your journey is essential.
- To avoid the risk of car theft never leave keys in the ignition - even for just a few seconds or to heat the car up
