Fostering, adopting and looked after children
We recruit, train and support foster carers and adopters and provide foster homes and adoptive families for children and young people of all ages and backgrounds.
You can find out more about adopting or fostering by clicking on the links below or selecting from the menu on the left. In the adoption section we have also got information for birth families.
Could you make a difference to a child's life?
We consider adoptive families and foster carers who live up to an hours travelling distance from the border of Solihull.
Fostering
Fostering means looking after someone else’s child on a temporary basis while parents get help sorting out their problems, take a break, or to help children and young people through a difficult period in their lives. Foster carers share responsibility for the child they look after with Solihull Council and the child’s birth parents.
We need foster carers who can look after children for short and longer periods of time. We also need people who have the skills and abilities to care for teenagers and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Adoption
Adoption is a legal procedure and involves the permanent transfer of parental responsibility from the child’s birth parents to the adoptive parents. This ends the child’s legal relationships with the birth family and gives the child new legal parents.
We have children of all ages who need adopting. They include groups of brothers and sisters, school age children and children with learning difficulties or health problems.
