School Governors - training
Information about training for School Governors.
Seminars
We provide a number of seminars to assist with spreading national and local policies and procedures; the development of governing bodies; and, the personal development of governors.
The seminars are normally held in the evenings and last for about two hours. The speakers are usually the lead experts within the LA on each particular subject.
Training budgets
As budgets are delegated to schools, our training seminars are provided on a buy-back basis. Different packages are available, before applying please ensure your school can support your requirements.
Induction Training
Your governing body will have an induction system to introduce you to your work as a governor. An important part of this is attendance on the National Training Programme for New Governors. This consists of a series of three seminars, held locally, available each term.
Booking Training Courses
Each governing body has a Governor Development Contact Person who coordinates training activity.
This person is sent details of course programmes and arranges for training to be discussed at governing body meetings. They collate training bids from the governing body and pass them to us.
You are welcome to contact us if you have any doubts concerning attendance.
Training Locations
Training seminars will normally be held at Civic Suite, Council House, Solihull.
Whole Governing Body training
Governing bodies can choose to arrange development seminars dedicated to their own particular needs. The subject matter is agreed in advance and we will arrange an appropriate tutor.
Topics have in the past included:
- Facilitated governing body self-review.
- Governing body roles and responsibilities.
- Workforce reform.
- Preparing for Ofsted inspection.
