Carers

Support if you provide care for others.

  • Adult carers
A carer is someone of any age whose life is restricted because they are looking after a friend, relative, partner or person who cannot manage without help, because of illness, age or a disability of any kind.
  • Advocacy for carers

It is recognised that carers need support and sometimes find it difficult to speak up for themselves.  Several organisations provide support to carers in Solihull and also offer advocacy (somebody to speak up on your behalf) or supported self-advocacy (somebody to help you speak up for yourself).

  • Respite care for adults
Carers and the "cared for" can benefit from day respite, residential respite and phased care services.
  • Young carers
A young carer is a child or young person aged 9-18 years, whose life is restricted because they take care of a person who is ill, has a disability, is experiencing mental illness, is affected by substance misuse, or is elderly/infirm.
