Home Safety Assessment
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council operates a Home Check service whose aim is to enhance home safety through information, advice and limited practical assistance.A home check is a free check of a property for safety, security or thermal insulation problems. Among the things examined as part of a home check are:
- Security of doors, windows and locks
- Electrical safety of appliances
- Potential hazards in the layout and furnishing of the property
- Ventilation, particularly for gas appliances
- Draught proofing and insulation
Minor repairs and safety measures (for example the fitting of locks) are provided free of labour charge. Advice is given on what other help may be available (for example home insulation grants) and the first enquiry made on your behalf. Major repairs and the supply of parts are, however, outside the scope of the scheme.
Staff will make an appointment to visit you at your convenience and provide you with a check list showing any problems found.
