Biodiversity & Woodland Management
The Woodland Strategy aims to protect, manage and enhance Solihull's woodlands for the benefit of residents, recreation, nature conservation and visual amenity.
We co-ordinate the implementation of the Council’s native woodland plans for the 26 native woodlands within the Borough. We can prepare funding bids for woodland management, such as England Woodland Grant Scheme and SITA Enriching Nature Fund.
Oakes and Shires
Oaks and Shires is an annual event taking place in one of Solihull’s woods. The event presents an opportunity for school children to learn about trees and woodland management. A heavy horse is present and is used to extract timber in a traditional way, which reduces the impact on the remaining woodland. The event is also open to the public on a Saturday in November, where traditional crafts such as wood turning, basket making and logging can be seen.
