Solihull Council is committed to providing more affordable housing to meet local housing needs. These include schemes to help people purchase an affordable home and also housing for rent. New housing for rent will always be advertised on the Solihull Home Options website.
The Council works closely with housing associations to deliver a range of affordable housing across the Borough.

Rented properties
Rented properties from Housing Associations will be advertised through the Solihull Home Options scheme, along with available Council properties.
You should therefore contact Solihull Community Housing on 0121 717 1515 or email info@solihullcommunityhousing.org.uk to apply to go on the Housing Register. Direct contact can also be made to the housing association.
Help to Buy Shared Ownership properties
Shared Ownership are particularly useful to those with a regular income, but who cannot afford to purchase a home in Solihull. You buy a percentage of the property (normally between 25% and 75%) with the rest being owned by the housing association. The housing association will charge rent on the share that it owns. Over time it is possible to buy further shares in the property and own it outright.
Help to Buy Equity Loan Scheme
The Help to Buy scheme replaced FirstBuy from 1st April 2013 and aims to help people move up the housing ladder. Help to Buy makes new build homes available to all home buyers (not just first time buyers) who wish buy a new home, but may be constrained in doing so – for example as a result of deposit requirements – but who could otherwise be expected to sustain a mortgage. Up to a maximum of 20% of the purchase price is available to the buyer through an equity loan funded by the Government through the HCA. The Help to Buy “Buyer’s Guide” covers all aspects of the scheme and a copy is available to download from the right hand panel.
Help to Buy Mortgage Guarantee scheme
The Help to Buy Mortgage Guarantee Scheme will be available from January 2014. More information will be available at a later date.
