Solihull Central Library hosts advisors from the National Careers Service and Connexions, comprehensive services for free, impartial information, advice and guidance.
National Careers Service
Solihull Central Library hosts local advisors for the National Careers Service, a free independent face-to-face careers and skills advice service for people aged 19 and over and people aged 18 who are registered with Jobcentre Plus.
Whatever stage in your work life, the National Careers Service offers free practical help and advice on careers, employment and training. Our friendly and professional advisers can help you:
- Explore career ideas and job options
- Understand your skills and help you make the most of them
- Develop your CV
- Improve your interview and presentation skills
- Look for work
- Make the most of your job application forms
- Find courses and training – including:
- College or university courses
- Leisure or evening courses
- Open and on-line learning courses
- Skills for Life courses
- Training to improve your work prospects.
The National Careers Service advice service is available in Solihull Library, by appointment, at the following times:
Monday: 10am – 1pm 2pm – 6pm
Tuesday: 9am – 1pm 2pm – 5pm
Wednesday: 10am – 1pm 2pm - 6pm
Thursday: 10am – 1pm 2pm – 6pm
Friday: 9am – 1pm 2pm – 4pm

Connexions
Based at Solihull Central Library, Connexions provides information, advice, guidance, support and personal development services for all 13-19 year olds (up to 25 for those with learning disabilities and/or difficulties):
- Information and advice about jobs, training opportunities, college courses and careers
- Advice on job hunting and preparing your CV
- Information about housing, benefits, leisure, health etc.
- Free access to PC and online resources
We also provide access to your own Personal Adviser - someone you can trust.
Opening hours:
Drop-In Service – Monday to Friday
Every afternoon 1-4pm
No need to make an appointment – a Personal Adviser will be on hand to help out with quick enquiries
Appointment Service – Monday to Friday
Appointments are essential for an individual session with a Personal Adviser (up to 40 minutes)
Every morning 9.15am – 12.30pm, and Thursday 4.45pm to 7pm
(On Wednesday appointments start at 10am)
