Free swimming for people aged 16 and under and 60 and over

Introduction

Solihull Council has signed up to a £140 million Government scheme which entitles residents aged 16 and under and 60 and over to use Tudor Grange and North Solihull swimming pools for free from 1st April 2009 until the 31st March 2011. The Council is working in partnership with the Solihull Care Trust and Parkwood Leisure to provide the scheme which aims to get more people taking part in regular exercise by 2012, to coincide with the Olympic Games in London.

How do I get a free swim?

If you are aged 16 and under or 60 and over and live or attend school in Solihull, you will be able to get a Free Swim Pass which you will need to show each time you visit. All you need to do to apply for a pass is hand in a completed application form to either Tudor Grange or North Solihull leisure centre, proof of age may be required. Postal applications will not be accepted.

When can I apply for a pass?

It’s best to apply before the 31st March so that you can be ready to take up the opportunity of free swimming from 1st April.  However, you can make an application for a Free Swim Pass anytime up until March 2011.

I don’t live or attend school in Solihull but I am aged 16 and under or 60 and over, can I still use Solihull Council’s pools for free?

Yes. You will need to complete an application form and provide proof of age but you will not be issued with a Free Swim Pass - you will be given a free ticket to enter the pool each time you visit instead.

Where can I get an application form?

Forms are available at Tudor Grange and North Solihull leisure centres, any Solihull library or Connect centre and can be downloaded here.

What happens if I lose my free swimming pass?

If you lose your free swimming pass you will be able to get a replacement at either of the leisure centres for free once. Any subsequent loss of card and a replacement card will cost 50 pence.
