Aimed at young people aged 10-24 years, it runs from April 2006 to March 2011 and has four elements:

  • Mobile evening activity sessions at crime hotspot locations within the wards of Kingshurst and Fordbridge, Smith's Wood, Castle Bromwich and Chelmsley Wood.
  • Sporting and learning opportunities at 'Pathway' venues including local primary and secondary schools, Smith's Wood Sports College and North Solihull Sports Centre.
  • Holiday activity programme.
  • Bespoke training programme for 18-24 year old unemployed young people.

The £500,000 project is funded by:

  • Sport England Community Investment Fund (National Lottery) £150,000
  • Solihull Council £160,000
  • The North Solihull Partnership (which is delivering the £1.8bn, 15-year Regenerating North Solihull programme) £75,000
  • Jobcentre Plus £47,000

Other partners include Connaught Plc, Waterloo Housing, , Solihull Community Housing, , West Midlands Police and the Solihull Safer Communities Strategic Group.

The project successfully delivers over 50 hours of sport per week and has engaged with over 17,000 participants since it began programming in July 2006.

Fusion won ‘Best Community Project’ at the Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire Sports Awards in 2007 and was nominated in the 2007 BBC Midlands Sports Awards ‘Power of Sport.’

Fusion was also nominated for two national awards; ‘Best Community and Neighbourhood Initiative’ at the APSE (2007) Awards and ‘Community Youth Initiative’ at the LGC & HSJ Sustainable Communities (2008) Awards

Our half term football camps have been granted FA Charter Standard status.

The success of the project has ensured that delivery now takes place in the south of the borough as well as Fusion continues to expand.
